Welcome to Changzhou

Changzhou is an ancient cultural city with a history of over 3,200 years. At the end of the Spring and Autumn Period (547 BCE), Jizha, the fourth son of King Shoumeng of Wu, was enfeoffed in Yancheng, marking the start of the city's history spanning more than 2,500 years with precise chronological records and definite place names. In the 5th year of Emperor Gaozu's reign in the Western Han Dynasty (202 BCE), it was renamed Pilin. In the 2nd year of Emperor Wu's Taikang reign in the Western Jin Dynasty (281 CE), it was reorganized as Pilin Commandery. Since then, Changzhou has served as the administrative seat of commanderies, prefectures, circuits, and prefectures in successive dynasties, and has been known by various names such as Yancheng, Pilin, Pitan, Jinling, Changchun, Changzhou (alternative character), and Wujin. The name "Changzhou" first came into use in the 9th year of Emperor Wen's Kaihuang reign in the Sui Dynasty (589 CE).

Geography and Climate

Changzhou generally exhibits a topographical trend of being higher in the southwest and lower in the northeast, with diverse landforms mainly consisting of two categories: low mountains, hills, and plains. It falls under the subtropical monsoon climate zone, featuring distinct four seasons, abundant rainfall, and sufficient sunlight.

Successful selection in 2011 marks Changzhou's outstanding achievements in the construction of urban civilization.
Gold Award of International Garden City: Awarded in 2012, it demonstrates Changzhou's excellent performance in ecological environment protection and urban construction.

In 2024, the total GDP of Changzhou reached 1.08136 trillion yuan, surpassing Yantai to rank 25th in China. Its GDP growth rate stood at 6.1%, topping the list in southern Jiangsu. The proportion of tax revenue in GDP hit 84.1%, ranking first in Jiangsu Province for two consecutive years.
